Mocks are around the corner: are you ready?

salve Reader!

You will have noticed I have been a bit quiet recently. No need to fret: I have not disappeared just before the mocks! I just had a longer-than-expected recovery from wisdom tooth extraction, so videos would have looked, let us say, interesting.

But I am back, and for many schools, mocks are around the corner, so let me show you what I have in store!

Today, I want to highlight some key resources and announce a free live event exclusively for parents of GCSE students that you will not want to miss.

Featured resources this month:

  • For A-Level students: https://www.latintutoronline.com/post/a-level-latin is packed with actionable resources to start revision on the right foot.
  • For GCSE students: If they are going to be spending some time on YouTube, at least they could be learning some Latin! Point them in the direction of my channel, which already has quite a large collection of GCSE-level videos to watch and learn from.
  • If you are a teacher or home educator, you should check out my Patreon community, where I share teaching resources and create a space for discussion and learning from each other.

Back to GCSE, I am going to hold an exclusive live meeting this coming Thursday to help you support your child as they sit their mocks.

Attendees will get:

  • Practical tools to reduce stress and overwhelm that their child can use at home and in the exam room
  • Top tips on key areas for revision so they know where to spend their energy
  • Realistic strategies to boost motivation and stop relying on willpower

Live attendees will also get an exclusive revision roadmap to use at home.

Registration will close on Wednesday 12, and spaces are limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Ana Martin

PS: I am currently fully booked for 1-to-1 lessons, but you can book a discovery call with me to get on the waiting list and be offered a place as soon as possible.

salve Reader! After a rather eventful 2025 (photos at the bottom of this email), 2026 promises to be as Roman as ever – hence calling it 2779, which is what it would have been for the Romans. Note: Romans counted ab urbe condita, from "the foundation of the city", so the counting starts 753 years before the birth of Christ. I have been finalising courses, trips and publications (yay!) for this year, so this is email is short a quick selection of notices to keep you updated. Courses: My Latin...

salve Reader! I hope this email finds you enjoying some good rest in a great place and with even better company. I am currently in my hometown, Sallent, in the centre of Catalonia, after a stimulating conference on language acquisition and a meeting with teachers from around the world in Barcelona. The line in the subject is from one of the cosiest of Horace's poems (or at least it can be read like that): 'avoid to seek what tomorrow will bring'. Well, I will admit that is a loose...

salve Reader! Today I was working on some new resources, and a fun discussion I had with a student last year came to mind. It went like this: We were joking about looking up easy words in the vocab list due to lack of confidence, and as an example he mentioned aut ('or'). When I told him that that would indeed be quite unlucky, as the word is not in the OCR vocabulary list for GCSE, he just would not believe it and ended up, ironically, looking it up. Surprise: OCR does not require aut (as in...
