How can you get your child learning and interested during half-term?

salve Reader!

Half-term is around the corner (yes, it truly is!).

For me, half-term is very busy with mock preparation and Oxbridge interview support, and I will be available for online tuition.

But do not worry, as you have probably heard, I am flying to Naples to dive in a submerged Roman city (somebody pinch me!) and work on my next set of resources just before that.

However, I am not going to leave without offering a few suggestions to help your student during this half-term. You might want to start lining them up anyway!

Here are my picks, in no particular order:

If your child is not yet learning Latin: the question here is "why not?" My next cohort of the Introductory Latin Course is starting next Monday, and it is the perfect time to have it all ready for half term.

Reply to this email if you are not sure if this course is for you.

If your child is in KS3 and they want to truly get Latin: make sure you watch some of my YouTube videos together! Below is an example. They are accessible even for those who do not know any Latin (yet).

If your child is working towards their GCSE: while you wait for my Latin GCSE Revision Course to be released in its new version, I recommend they start thinking about their literature. Here are 3 useful blog posts:

  1. Virgil for GCSE
  2. Understanding the History of Rome
  3. Answering style questions

If your child is working towards A Levels: unless they are preparing for imminent interviews, I recommend reading around topics of their interest and enjoying the language while improving their fluency. Here are three diverse examples:

  1. A graphic novel based on Tacitus' Agricola
  2. Thermae Novae, a manga about ancient Rome and time travel
  3. Barbarians, a bilingual series in Latin and German, made easy to follow by the subtitles and the gripping plot

Do you have anything planned for this half term? If you are doing anything classical, do let me know, Reader! I love finding out what my students are up to.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Ana

PS: Make sure to join the waiting list for my Latin GCSE Revision Course. Doors will open soon and spaces will limited.
