Oxford Creative Writing Competition 2024

If you have a student between the ages of 11 and 18, I strongly encourage them to participate in the latest Oxford outreach writing competition (poster at the bottom!)

Here is why:

  1. There are different age categories, which means a very good chance to compete amongst peers
  2. At a 500-word limit, it is a manageable challenge to get the creative juices flowing
  3. The price is an object handling in the Ashmolean Museum!

You may be busy with end of year exams, but do not forget the bigger picture: Classics is a subject to be enjoyed, and the objects they have chosen are an absolute delight to work with. Also, this is a fantastic chance to work on extension activities for your UCAS applications!

PS. Since you are here, let me remind you of the upcoming courses that are currently open for registration:

JULY: Latin Taster Class for KS2 students

SELF-PACED: Latin GCSE Grammar Revision for GCSE

SEPTEMBER: Greek 1 (beginners) and 2 (one year or 2) for ICCG

Just reply to this email if you need any more information.

It is the perfect language lover's day! You may be wondering at this point what this has to do with Latin...

salve Reader! [For those wondering where my holiday photos are, just scroll to the bottom, where I have shared some. For everyone else:] A student has asked me today why Latin does not have an oral exam. Too right! Just what I had been thinking about in the last couple of days. It is not that I do not know why Latin does not have an oral exam... but if you are not weighed down by the burden of "traditionalists", it does not really make much sense, which is why younger students often ask. The...

salve Reader! I cannot wait to tell you all about my trip to Spain and the new ideas I have brought back with me, so please stay tuned, as that is coming very soon. In the meantime, I have been having conversations this week with parents who are unsure how to support their children in tackling their revision load effectively. I thought my revision roadmap would be helpful, so I have decided to share it with you all. This is the GCSE version (the A-Level one has more layers and requires...
