As one school year wraps up and I start preparing for the next, I get to speak with students at the end of their journey to uni, as well as those at the very beginning. One thing is clear in these conversations: the sooner you take the plunge and start truly learning classical languages, the better. If your student is in years 6-9, this is the time to give them a chance to interact with the world of Latin and Classical Civilisation, and start building a strong foundation. My Monday KS2 and KS3 courses are open for registration only until the 10th of July, so please make sure you book this sooner rather than later! If your student is interested in Greek, I will be teaching beginners on Tuesday (pre and post GCSE) and intermediate students on Thursday. I highly recommend students prepare for the Intermediate Certificate in Classical Greek, which leaves the door open to a GCSE and can be used towards UCAS applications - a fantastic bonus to a course that is in itself great fun! For GCSE students, I have set up a Latin Gym on Friday afternoons. This is exactly what it sounds like: a place to build fluency and consolidate vocabulary by reading, listening, writing and speaking. For many students taking GCSE and A-Level, one-to-one tutoring is the best option. If this is the case for your learner, please make sure to contact me as soon as possible, as only a limited number of slots are still available for 2024-2025. To reserve your space in any of these courses, reply to this email, and I will arrange a meeting with you to ensure you are exactly where you need to be. |

(in this email: movie recommendations, course information and a pooing log!) I recently went to see Conclave, and let me tell you: this is a must-watch for Latin students! The movie is a 12Aa, which suits both GCSE and A-Level students. So, why should Latin students watch it? Watch the trailer, and then we can talk: The trailer does indeed do justice to this trepidant thriller: I was on edge for the whole two hours (which felt like 30 minutes anyway). And this is despite having read the book...
I have been sitting on this email for a while, and I really hope I have hit the sweet spot between Black Friday and the Christmas rush to make sure you open it! First of all, my apologies if I have been a bit slow getting back to emails recently. Between mock exams, Oxbridge interview support, career advice and (breath!) end-of-term preparations, this is a hectic time of the year. But it is also time to get ready for 2025, so here is some important information: Latin and Greek events:...
Exams are there to focus attention and showcase achievement, but it is necessary to mix exams up with lower stakes, fun projects. This is particularly important for students who want to apply to competitive universities and want to look at creative and appealing ways to stretch their skills. In this newsletter, I want to share with you a couple of currently open competitions. There are so many options that every student, both those in school or in a different setting, should be able to find...
