A long summer to fill?

July Newsletter

salve Reader,

As I went on to write this newsletter, I realised there has been quite a gap since the last one. Oooops! Or, as the Romans would say: eheu!

No excuse, but it has been far from quiet here: dedicated students kept me on my feet, and the work we have done together will shape my offerings for the summer and beyond.

And you may have noticed a change in colours... and even the logo! But that's not all. My new website will be better and more organised for sharing resources, so read on to see what's new there.

Here is what is in store for the coming weeks:

Latin Foundation Course

I have seen how Latin can transform academic performance, and I want to make it easy for parents to introduce the subject, even if the school children attend is not offering it or they are home-educated.

If you have a young student about to start Latin or considering it as an option, this is the course for you to

  • Help your child understand how Latin is all around us and catch it on the spot
  • Introduce them in an engaging way to a subject that will make them better readers, better spellers, and better speakers
  • 7 days of content in your inbox, with access to the platform for a whole year to go over it as many times as you like

Back to my website, resources have moved. The blog will now be dedicated to parents and students, whereas my Patreon site will feature resources for teachers as well as a space for conversation.

In the next few days, I will be sharing some resources to bring the Romans to life during the summer months. To make sure you do not miss anything, do follow on social media:

Not sure if the Latin Foundation Course is for you? Just reply to this email and I will help you decide.

in proximum,

salve Reader! Very sorry to mention the H word. Surely half-term break is for resting? Please do not worry: I am not going to send you a vocabulary list to learn! What I am going to do is leave below some events and ideas for you to browse and put in your diary. Those in Y12 are not too pressed for prep at the moment, so now is the time to start working on their university choice. The good news is that it can be most interesting to learn about the different courses and subjects, and what...

salve Reader! Many students get a surprise result in January. Perhaps your mocks didn't go as expected, or perhaps your efforts have paid off with an Oxford offer (sorry if you applied to Cambridge: there are still 8 days to go!). Janus, god of transitions, doorways and January I see both sides of this January coin. One day, I receive an email from a student with an offer to read Classics at Jesus College (btw, well done if you are reading!), the next I get a call from a parent who did not...

salve Reader! After a rather eventful 2025 (photos at the bottom of this email), 2026 promises to be as Roman as ever – hence calling it 2779, which is what it would have been for the Romans. Note: Romans counted ab urbe condita, from "the foundation of the city", so the counting starts 753 years before the birth of Christ. I have been finalising courses, trips and publications (yay!) for this year, so this is email is short a quick selection of notices to keep you updated. Courses: My Latin...
